These were originally collected as a curio, I myself bought one in London for about £15.
They are now sought after and the price can go beyond $200 for a note in UNC condition.
There are counterfeits coming out of China, each one more sophisticated than the last.
Unfortunately, a relative of mine became a victim of one of these counterfeits. They bought the note for me, not knowing it was fake. It was bought online.
I myself only found out it was fake when I found differences between that note and the one I had purchased years ago in London.
You can read about this here:

Also, Banknoteworld has put out a very nice guide showing the differences between the real note and the known fakes so far.

If you are buying on ebay, it is hard to see the fine details to recognise whether this is a fake or note.
One obvious give-away is the tree pattern on the obverse. If the leaves don't follow the pattern of the rock, it is a fake.
In fact, the counterfeiters chose the "right" target:
- the banknote ceased to be legal tender;
- over the 15 years, interest in the ordinary banknote (due to its unusual denomination) increased, which led to a tenfold increase in price.
I think they're targeting not only collectors, but also lovers of souvenirs symbolizing "wealth and success," who enjoy bargains (these counterfeits sell for significantly less than the originals).
